Question about seizures?

My friend's mom just called me and told me that my friend was in the emergency room because she had just had a seizure! (shes 17)

she has never had a seizure before and im just so worried about her:(

Her mom said while they were waiting for the ambulance, she was unconsious and turning blue!!

anyways, do you think she will be lucid enough tomorrow for me to talk to her on the phone?

Will she be back to normal tomorrow?

im so scared and know no details about her current condition.
Answer:
I would give her 24 hours to recover, the body is very painful post seizures as the muscles contract strongly and she will be very tired. Speak to her mother first and make sure she is ok for chats and be aware she maybe tired and may find it hard to concentrate until she has had enough rest.

Hope she does well and don't panic - sounds like she is a very close friend and she will appreciate your love and support.
Hi. Your friend will be very tired and sleepy for several hours after her seizure. Depending on the type of seizure she had...two types...one is grand-mal and the other is peti-mal
seizures.

Grand Mal is more extreme...however it is also controlled by medication. One example is a medication known as Tegretol. This has to be given by her physician if he feels that she would be prone to additional seizures.
Usually after a person has a seizure, the treating physician might want to "wait and see" if she has another. This is a great approach, as not everyone who has 1 seizure.will go on to have more.
If she has additional seizures...then they would probably want her on medication. They would run tests like EEG's and possibly an MRI..just remember...that these tests are only a "snap-shot of that moment in time" and if she is not having a seizure at that moment...the may find nothing. This doesn't mean she will or will not have another seizure...just gives the physician(s) a "baseline" EEG or MRI for furture reference point.

I would speak with her mom tomorrow to see if she is up and feeling better. I'm sure she will be better and want to see you. Just check with her mom first and let her know you want to be their for both your friend and her mom.

The brain shuts down during a seizure %26 that's why she was "unconsious". She will come around pretty quickly and they may keep her overnight just for observation. They may also send her home and have her mom contact her primary physician or make an appointment with a Neurologist. They are specialist in the area of the brain. They will give your friend and mom a great deal of information for future reference.

I hope your friend is feeling better in the morning %26 just let her know you love her and are there for her.
Many blessings, Patti
No dear, she will not be lucid enough to speak to tomorrow, because, since she haven't had a seizure/seizures before, then if she was unconscious and turning blue was due to the fact that she had what you call a "Grand Mal Seizure".

Another thing that was happening was that she being unconscious, will take alot of mental and physical energy from her. So with the medications she will be left asleep with a nurse checking on her every second. She will be very weak and dizzy with the meds that would have to help her stay asleep in order for her to regain enough energy to start back communication with you or anyone else.
god bless Ur friend.
